Turning Point's Mark Shepperd releases statement for World AIDS Day

Mark Shepperd, Turning Point’s Managing Director for Public Health, said:

‘There are still many myths that surround HIV and AIDS, so on World AIDS Day we’re encouraging the people we support to be better informed; to take control and get tested.

‘People who misuse substances are at increased risk of contracting HIV, so our message to them is clear – if you’re concerned, seek help and get tested. We know that treatment works. Even if you are diagnosed with HIV you can still live a normal, healthy life. Advances have been made so that in the UK only 0.3% of people with HIV develop AIDS. So if you’re concerned, do not remain quiet, speak to your support worker, your GP or a sexual health advisor and get tested.’
