Turning Point to take part in Recovery Street Film Festival 2015

News item posted: 19 June 2017

As one of the founding partners of the original Recovery Street Film Festival, Turning Point is pleased to announce that it is supporting this year’s festival, which will focus on the theme ‘My Story’. The Recovery Street Film Festival asks those who have achieved recovery from substance dependence to tell their story by means of a short film.

The festival asks entrants to submit a short, 3-minute video, telling a story about their relationship with drugs or alcohol, or that of someone close to them, and focusing on recovery. Groups are allowed to submit an entry, but professional filmmakers may not. Entries will be judged on the quality of the story that they tell, as well as the skill with which they tell it, with a prize for the winning entry.

Personal storytelling has an established place in people’s recovery journey, and is something that Turning Point services make use of in many different ways. Storytelling on film can have a powerful, positive effect, allowing individuals to create a lasting, memento of their recovery, as well as affording them a means of acknowledging and examining the journey they have been on.

Entries for the Recovery Street Film Festival close on July 20th, and winning entries will be shown online, and at a series of pop-up cinema events in areas around the UK, between 12 – 26 September. Further information can be found at: http://www.recoverystreetfilmfestival.co.uk/
