Turning Point responds to mental health funding announcement

In response to the announcement today by NHS England Chief Executive Simon Stevens and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg that NHS England is to invest a further £120million over the next two years on improving mental health services, Lord Victor Adebowale, Chief Executive of Turning Point, said;

"This commitment to investing in mental health services is welcome and undeniably needed to address the lack of parity of esteem that continues to exist for those with mental health issues, compared to people with physical health conditions."

"This is a first step on a long journey. Funding cuts have had a huge impact on mental health provision but we also need to address the inherent discrimination people with mental health issues face at every level of the system and the challenges around data collection. This extra funding has to have an impact on those seen as the hardest to reach groups in order to see a sustained improvement in mental health care."
