Turning Point responds to mental health focus in Labour Party Conference Speech

In response to Ed Miliband's focus on mental health in his Labour Party Conference speech yesterday, Felix Davies, Managing Director for Turning Point's Mental Health Services said;

"It is encouraging that Ed Miliband has focused on the importance of prioritising mental health provision in this country. As he recognises, mental health is not restricted by age, gender or geography and yet the stigma around it persists.

We need to ensure that parity of esteem between physical health and mental health as outlined in the 'No Health without Mental Health' framework becomes a reality and that the right support is available for any individuals who need it, when they need it. This early intervention is key, as is the provision of crisis mental health services. The economic cost of mental health issues in England has been estimated at more than £105billion each year; as Miliband notes we cannot afford to make mental health an afterthought."
