Turning Point responds to HSCIC statistics on alcohol 2014

In response to the 'statistics on alcohol 2014' report released by the Health and Social Care Information Service (HSCIC), Darren Woodward, Director of Operations for Substance Misuse at Turning Point said;

"These statistics emphasise the huge impact alcohol misuse has on society and on the NHS. While it is good to see a reduction in the number of people being admitted to hospital for alcohol related issues we cannot afford to be complacent.

Based on the support Turning Point provides in our A and E services in areas across the country, we know that patients benefit from brief alcohol interventions in hospitals. Staff based at A and E are able to reach patients earlier and signpost to local alcohol services, reducing the likelihood that they will return. We need to ensure that funding for such services is maintained and expanded to areas without these valuable interventions in order to see a continued reduction in these numbers."
