Turning Point Comments on the Government's Social Care Proposals

Lord Victor Adebowale, chief executive of Turning Point, said: 'This white paper on social care is long-awaited and a step forward, not just for older people but also the millions in this country with a learning disability or long-term mental health condition.

'Many of the reforms are positive, particularly the fact people will no longer have their care interrupted if they move around the country and care assessments for under 18s which will help to ensure they don't lose out on support on reaching adulthood.

'However, these reforms are meaningless without a proper commitment to funding. Delays in tackling how social care is funded continue to increase the anxiety felt by families and individuals across the country and adds to their confusion and frustration. This is where political leadership is essential in delivering a truly modern, sustainable and fair care system for people desperate for this to be resolved.'
