Time Bank celebration at Health and Wellbeing Centre

News item posted: 19 June 2017

On Saturday 16th March Earls Court Health and Wellbeing Centre will be hosting a Time bank celebration event in partnership with Family Mosaic, Southern Housing, L&Q housing and the Earls Court Community Trust.

Featuring free food from Jamie Oliver's "Recipease", the event will also include Pilates, Yoga, dance and art classes, reflexology, massage and face painting as well as activities for children.

Earl's Court Time Bank works by providing ways for people to share their skills and be rewarded for it in time credits. For every hour you give to the time bank, you receive an hour of credit that you can spend on a service that another time bank member is offering, for example an Indian head massage, DIY help, or a pilates class. There is no minimum time commitment and individuals can participate as and when they are able. Current members exchange skills and services including reflexology, tutoring, dance classes and computer lessons.

Rachel Hamburg, Community Involvement Coordinator for Turning Point at the Earls Court Health and Wellbeing Centre said;

"Time banking is a fantastic way to bring people together and increase a sense of community. Time banking has been shown to be particularly useful for individuals who are isolated, elderly or have physical or mental health conditions, many of the very people we aim to support within the centre.

One of the great things about a time bank is that it can be whatever its members want it to be. It's about community members sharing their skills, their passions, their needs and their ambitions with one another. It is about mutual support and reciprocity. The concept is simple, but the impact it can have, and is already having, on Earl's Court is profound."
