Social Saturday event in Oxford to celebrate businesses that put people and planet first

Turning Points Refresh Café, a social enterprise based in Cowley Road, Oxford is opening especially on Saturday 15th October to celebrate Social Saturday, a nationwide day of events and activities to celebrate social enterprise, social investment and social savings in the UK.

Social enterprises are businesses that trade to meet a social or environmental mission. There are around 70,000 social enterprises in the UK, employing nearly a million people and contributing £24 billion to the economy.

Turning Point’s Refresh Café is a social enterprise set up to promote recovery and wellbeing. The Café offers former substance misuse clients the opportunity to gain work experience in a real business. People in recovery are supported into employment through training and work experience which gives them the confidence and skills to get back into work.

Mark Lambert, the Refresh Café manager said: ‘We are delighted to take part in Social Saturday and want to use this opportunity to help promote what social enterprises are all about. Please come to the café and meet some of our volunteer, eat some cake and learn more about what we are trying to do!’
