An alcohol treatment service for Waltham Forest residents celebrated the refurbishment of its main treatment centre and the launch of a new specialist alcohol team on the 14th February.

The service, a partnership between the NHS, council and Turning Point is housed in recently refurbished premises in Walthamstow Village and provides a range of help for people dependant on alcohol.

A new specialist alcohol team has now come together in one place meaning quicker access to assessment and safe, community detox and recovery support. The team also provides group based therapy to adults in Waltham Forest.

Sally Gill, Operations Manager for Turning Point Waltham Forest said; "This new way of working offers an exciting opportunity. It will ensure residents of Waltham Forest receive the best possible alcohol services - supporting more people to sustain recovery and achieve an alcohol free life."

Chair of the local GPs' group, Dr. Ivbijaro said; "It means a lot to everyone involved here, from GPs to staff to the service users, that we've improved the help available for local people to this extent. That can only be good for those who need our help to tackle their alcohol problem and GPs are in an ideal position to direct people to the service."

A service user added; "admitting I have a problem with alcohol and working through the treatment has been a difficult path, but the service has provided me with the help and information to make sense of my emotional and physical feelings, making the whole process that much easier. They still provide me with after care and help to keep me motivated by providing additional training."

The service accepts GP referrals but anyone concerned about their own or others' drinking can call to book an appointment on 020 8509 1888.
