Lord Adebowale calls for whole system reform to support people with mental health issues

Today the Prime Minister made a speech about improving the life chances of families and young people, emphasising the importance of good mental health and announcing investment in emergency departments, support for new mums and 24/7 crisis provision.

Lord Victor Adebowale CBE, Chief Executive of Turning Point, Chair of the APPG on Complex Needs and Dual Diagnosis and member of the Mental Health Taskforce said: 'Mental health issues affect 1 in 4 people, yet we know many still find it hard to access the right support at the right time, particularly if they're also affected by addiction.

'Too many people access the system via a crisis point - often hospital or via the police. The investment announced by the Prime Minister today in community provision is helpful. The expansion of the Troubled Families programme is welcome. However, radical transformation of the whole system to one that supports physical, public and mental health outcomes simultaneously is required, if we're going to fully address the inequalities still facing many families.'
