David Hoare comments on NHS Mandate release

In response to the Government's mandate to the NHS Commissioning Board released today, Turning Point's Deputy Chief Executive David Hoare said;

"The mandate outlines that a key objective of the NHS Commissioning Board is to put mental health on a par with physical health and to close the health gap between people with mental health problems and the population as a whole.  When the economic cost of mental health issues in England has been estimated at more than £105billion each year we know that to do anything less is unthinkable if we are to ensure our economic and social health as a nation.
Measurable progress towards true parity of esteem between mental and physical health is expected by March 2015.  We need to ensure that everyone involved in the commissioning and delivery of mental health services works together to move this from rhetoric to reality."
